Helen Mayhew is one of the uk’s top jazz broadcasters. Mobo and Sony award nominee. Twice winner of the Parliamentary Jazz Award for best presenter, 2005 and 2008.
Her career in radio has spanned 21 years , from BBC Local Radio in Devon and Kent, to 14 years spent as a presenter on London radio station Jazz FM. Her evening programme was the most listened-to on the station, and she became known for choosing music that appeals not only to committed jazz fans but also to the casual listener.
Well-known among the jazz fraternity for her interviewing skills, Helen has interviewed some of the world’s top jazzmen, including McCoy Tyner, Branford and Wynton Marsalis, Freddie Hubbard, Abdullah Ibrahim, Geri Allen, Michael Brecker, Eddie Harris, Dianne Reeves, Chick Corea, Stanley Turrentine, Quincy Jones and Shirley Horn.
As a club DJ, her gigs have included appearances at Ronnie Scotts in London and the Jazz FM Weekender in Birmingham, as well as Cargo, Cherry Jam, and The Market Bar in London.
